Starting in October and running through to April is Blue Marlin season in Exmouth. By the time the Leeuwin current arrives off our coast Blue Marlin fever is well and truly in full swing. The current brings the bait, the bait brings the Blue Marlin and “it’s game on’! Heavy tackle game fishing at its very best.
Exmouth has the closest and most accessible Blue Marlin fishery in Australia. Our Blue Marlin fishing grounds are located only a short run out from the Tantibiddi Boat Ramp on the west side of Exmouth, a run of around 15 minutes. Our close proximity to deep water and the sheer numbers of Blue Marlin swimming these waters makes the Exmouth Blue Marlin Fishery world class.
Blue Marlin are big, they are explosive, they are angry but yet they are one of the most spectacular fish to hit our coastline. Their aggressive speed and ridiculous acrobatics causing explosions of white water will have you mesmerised from the first moment. Blue Marlin fishing is our passion. We never tire of it, we are hungry for it and we want you here to experience it all. Black Marlin go hard, Blue Marlin go harder!!!
Most of our fish range in size from 100 to 180 kg (200 to 600 lbs) with much larger fish not uncommon. On January 1st 2018 we made Australian Gamefishing history, weighing in Australia’s first Blue Marlin Grander at 1089 lbs (494.6 kg). The daily number of bites is the other reason why Exmouth Heavy Tackle Blue Marlin Fishery is so impressive. In the same season as weighing the Grander we put down numbers of 165 fish in 81 days with 17 fish estimated over 500 lbs. We caught 11 fish in 1 day coming off the back of the previous seasons best of 10 fish in one day.
Our method of fishing makes it pretty hard to beat, with tease and switch style giving you the full experience of what these fish are capable of from the palms of your hands. Quality tackle is needed for such a task, hence why we run a full set of custom Ian Miller Game Outfits paired with Shimano Tiagras and Bonze tackle making up our spread of lures and teasers. To put it simply there is nothing better!!!
