The ease and accessibly to these vast billfishing grounds means short runs out and more time fishing. The deep water is located within a mere 10 minutes of travel from the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp. Black marlin and sailfish are the primary targets with striped marlin common. These species are here all year round in our inshore waters.
The best time for light tackle billfishing is from February through to October. During this time of year there is an excellent opportunity of achieving a Grand Slam by catching all 3 species in one day. During February/March and September/October there is also a good chance of seeing a blue marlin too. Large numbers of billfish can be caught over these months. Our best day recorded 14 fish and to date we have achieved numerous Grand Slams as well as 2 Super Slams (4 species in 1 day).
Black marlin tagged range from 15 to 150 kg with an average fish being between 30 to 60 kg. 100 kg Blacks are not uncommon. Sailfish size ranges from 10 to 35 kg. We keep tackle light (15kg line class) to maximise the sport in these fish. Quality Daiwa spin reels and Shimano Talica overheads paired with our Custom Built “Millerods” will have you locked and loaded on these airborne pocket rockets. You can be assured maximum preparation will have taken place before you even step foot on to our boat. Our bait, good enough for human consumption, will be rigged and ready to go. The by-catch in this area includes dolphinfish, wahoo and yellowfin tuna, along with various other tuna species.
