The Exmouth Gulf sailfish fishery offers an experience only found in a few places around the world. The gulf boasts shallow water, close proximity to the boat ramp and a plentiful supply of bait fish. The fishing is fast, thrilling and fun.

Through October and November bait migrates into Exmouth Gulf creating a rich food source for the sailfish. Packs of sailfish work together balling up the bait and pushing it to the surface where the birds above are looking for a feed. Finding the birds means finding the fish. Live bait, previously caught, is rigged up on quality Daiwa spin reels.

The captain uses the 25ft Contender’s speed, at times up to 40 knots, to put you right in the middle of the action. The crew are there to maximise your opportunities whilst you sight cast to free swimming and feeding sailfish. Speed enables us to arrive at the bait ball quickly, making the visual part of this style of fishing so effective. Circle hooks are used to enable a healthy release and ensure a sustainable fishery. Amazing numbers of sailfish can be caught this way. Our best number being 19 fish in one day. This figure we have achieved twice!!

If you want to witness a scene from a National Geographic program whilst getting a serious sailfish fix, Exmouth in October and November is where you want to be.
